Frische Psychiatry is excited to announce that starting in September 2021 Dr. Frische will be offering interventional psychiatry services, TMS & Intranasal Esketamine in partnership with Greenbrook TMS NeuroHealth Centers in Cary, North Carolina.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy
Transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS, is a safe, effective, and noninvasive form of brain stimulation. Approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2008, TMS devices operate outside of the body and use powerful magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in specific areas of the brain to improve symptoms of depression and anxiety. TMS therapy is indicated for individuals diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) who have not achieved satisfactory symptom improvement from antidepressant medications and therapy. TMS therapy is often used in individuals who are unable to tolerate side effects from antidepressant medications such as weight gain and sexual dysfunction; however, TMS can be used alone or in conjunction with medications. TMS does not require anesthesia and patients may resume daily activities right after treatment. Dr.Frische will be utilizing both NeuroStar and BrainsWay Devices.
Intranasal Esketamine
Intranasal esketamine, marketed under the brand name Spravato, is a prescription medication used in treatment of adults with Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) and depressive symptoms in adults with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) with suicidal thoughts or actions.
Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES)
Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulators transmit small pulses of electric current across patient’s brain via a pair of conductive electrodes placed on patient’s head. CES devices have been in existence for several decades and are approved by the FDA for treatment of insomnia, depression, and anxiety. They exhibit good efficacy, do not present significant side effects, and they are not habit-forming. Several of the most popular CES brand devices include Alpha-Stim, Fisher Wallace, and Cervella.
